01/09/2025 - Meeting Minutes
AGENDA NOTES
The meeting opened at 12:05 as Darryl Simmons welcomed Chamber Members. Thanks to Stonefire Pizzeria for hosting the meeting. Darryl Simmons is our 2025 Chamber President; Richard Varela (from Smithfield Recreation) is President-Elect.
Business Reviews:
Second Act Literacy Foundation (Steve Cook) - They work with immigrants and refugees with GEDs. Working with Bridgerland to get their students GED’s so they can pursue further training.
Smithfield Lions Club (Deon Hunsaker)- They are already for next year's Night of Giving with their tree and theme! This Saturday is a training for local Girl Scouts so that they can help with eyeglass rehab for humanitarian trips. On February 17th they are sponsoring a Red Cross blood drive. They are always looking for new members as well.
Huski Marketing (Matt Veil) - Rebranding and starting their rebrand this month. Launching their new software division and looking for beta testers to help streamline their operations. The purpose is to help you communicate with your customers; they offer training and customization.
Zions Bank (Tarissa Gwilliam) - Working on helping businesses and startups with SBAs. You can bring your business employees to Zions; if they set up a personal account they can get a $200 credit.
Cache Valley Bank (Zane Johnson, Katelyn Mason) - They are doing a big remodel in their offices in Smithfield. Their Preston branch is having an open house for their new office.
Whole Body Health Care (Zach Manwaring)- With basketball they have lots of sprained ankles this time of year. They support the Indoor Triathlon athletes.
Farmers Insurance (Lily Knudsen) - A reminder to remember compassion for those facing wildfires in California. If you have questions about your home coverage, give them a call.
United Way of Northern Utah (Jimmy Birman) - They partner with community organizations and focus on 211 Utah as a resource finder. February 11th is 211 Day and they are looking forward to spreading awareness of the 211 resource. Let them know if you are available to help.
Smithfield Recreation (Richard Varela) - Super busy, as normal, for January with all the new patrons for New Years. They are now registering for spring youth soccer and starting soon for spring competitive basketball. They also have a membership special for new members into next week. The Indoor Triathlon is January 25th so they are looking forward to that.
USU Credit Union (Trevor Larson) - Trevor is the new manager at the Providence branch. Still hoping to be involved in chamber events; we will hopefully see more from other Smithfield branch employees. Looking to partner with nonprofits to offer financial literacy training.
Antics Comedy Improv (Trevor Larson) - They have moved to the old Cinefour Theaters (the new Coconut Cove). They are starting on Friday nights this month. This is a great date night or family night activity. The first Friday of every month is Family Night - kids under 8 get in free. More adult themed shows are the 4th Friday of every month at 9:30 pm.
Green Box Solar (Sean Atkinson) - Friday, February 7th they are having a dinner to educate people on federal and state incentives on solar. RSVP on their Facebook page. The dinner will be at the Hive.
Host Huski (Andrew Davis) - Partnering with Matt Veil with their hosting and online business services. They will work together to support businesses and entrepreneurs. They are looking for connections to those starting new businesses or those growing businesses. Their revenue broke $100,000 last year and hope to double that this year.
President Darryl Simmons - Think of anyone that you might invite to join us in our Chamber. We would love to grow our Chamber and involve more business owners with our events.
Also, Paul Jenkins has started a new job with WorkForce Services. He is still DJing events so if you need music services give him a call.
Additional Items
- Please turn in any Night of Giving receipts to Nicole. As an FYI, a YSA ward wrapped and delivered gifts to 11 families.
- Membership Dues - $100 for a store front; $25 for a Home Business. Please let Nicole know when you submit your dues and she will deliver your window sticker.
- Easter Egg Hunt - please start thinking about how many eggs you want to provide; we will have them stuffed at the end of March. The last few years we have had to move the Easter Egg Hunt inside at the Smithfield Rec Center/Sky View High School. After a short discussion, we decided to move the Easter Egg Hunt from Mack Park to the Rec Center. If the weather is good, it will be outside; if we have rain/snow, it will be inside. This will be a positive change so we won’t have to change the location at the last minute.
Calendar Items for 2025:
- April 19th - Easter Egg Hunt
- May 7th - Tri School Golf Tournament
- May 10th - Health Days Pancake Breakfast
- December 7th - Night of Giving
Next Meeting - February 6th, place TBD
